Global Microsoft 365 outage: Teams, Outlook, Exchange
On 17 June 2025 a large part of Microsoft 365 failed — Outlook, Teams, Exchange Online, and partly SharePoint and other services. Microsoft blamed a traffic management update that misrouted load; incident MO1096211 lasted hours.
In short: One vendor update stops your office. Diversification is not paranoia.
What organisations felt
Mass sign-outs, mail stuck, Teams meetings broken. If you depend on one suite, work stops — unless you keep a local mail backup or alternate channel.
Why a EU plan B helps
Global vendor outages are not theoretical. European mail and files with a second provider help for critical data and client communication. Hosting in the EU and Nextcloud as a second leg — not necessarily an instant full migration.
